Location Verification: How We're Fighting Spam & Protecting Our Users

April 11, 2026 Dhandaz Tech 4 min read

Why We Built This

At Dhandaz Tech, your trust is everything to us. As our platforms — Parkify.ca, Rentol.ca, and Taskal.ca — continue to grow across Canada and the United States, we've seen an unfortunate rise in spam listings and fraudulent posts from people who aren't even located near the areas they claim to serve.

A person sitting in another country posting a "parking spot in downtown Toronto" or a "basement for rent in Vancouver" isn't just spam — it's a potential scam that wastes your time and puts your money at risk. We decided to do something about it.

What We've Introduced

Starting today, every listing posted across our platforms goes through a real-time location verification check. Before your ad goes live, we compare your current browser location against the postal code you've entered to make sure they're within a reasonable distance of each other.

Parkify.ca

Parking listings verified

Rentol.ca

Rental properties verified

Taskal.ca

Service tasks verified

How It Works

1

Location Permission

When you open the posting form, your browser asks for location access. This is required to proceed — we need to know you're real and nearby.

2

Postal Code Check

When you enter or select a postal code, we calculate the distance between your current location and that postal code in real time.

3

Distance Decision

Based on the distance, the system either lets you proceed, shows a warning, or blocks the listing entirely.

Distance What Happens Status
Under 100 km Proceed normally — you're close to your listing Allowed
100 – 200 km A yellow warning appears asking if you're sure Warning
Over 200 km Posting is blocked — too far from the listed area Blocked

Your privacy matters. We never store your exact GPS coordinates. The location is only used at the moment of posting to verify proximity — it's not saved, shared, or tracked.

A Note of Honesty

We want to be completely transparent with you: no security system is 100% foolproof. Determined bad actors can use VPNs, GPS spoofing tools, or other technical methods to fake their location. We know this, and we're not going to pretend otherwise.

What this system does is raise the bar significantly. The vast majority of spam and fraudulent listings come from opportunistic actors — not sophisticated hackers. By requiring real-time geolocation, we eliminate the easiest and most common attack vectors. For the casual spammer, this is a wall they simply won't bother climbing.

We're also continuing to layer additional security measures behind the scenes, including IP-based country blocking via Cloudflare, pattern detection on listing content, and responsive monitoring of flagged accounts.

Stay vigilant. Even with our protections in place, we encourage every user to exercise caution. If a listing seems too good to be true, if someone asks for money upfront before showing a property or parking spot, or if they refuse to meet in person — trust your instincts and report it.

How You Can Stay Safe

  • Always meet the person in a public area or at the actual listing location before making any payment
  • Never send money through wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or gift cards to someone you haven't met
  • Check the poster's profile — look for reviews, response badges, and account age
  • If a listing has been flagged or seems suspicious, use the Report button — we investigate every report
  • Trust your gut — if something feels off, walk away and find another listing

We Care About Our Community

Every feature we build, every security layer we add, comes from the same place: we genuinely care about the people using our platforms. Whether you're a tasker earning a living on Taskal, a landlord renting out your basement on Rentol, or someone sharing their driveway on Parkify — you deserve a safe, honest marketplace.

This location verification is just one part of our ongoing commitment to building trustworthy platforms. We'll keep improving, keep listening to your feedback, and keep fighting to make our marketplaces the safest they can be.

Have concerns or suggestions? We'd love to hear from you. Reach out to us through any of our platforms or email us at support@dhandaztech.com. Your feedback makes us better.
